What one thing is your biggest inspiration each and every day?

Oh, man. One of my high school teachers labeled me as ‘intrinsically motivated’ on my college application letters – and it’s true. I’m one of those naturally go-get-’em people who enjoy working for the sake of working. Also, for the sake of planning my next travel destination.

Where are you hoping to be in your life and career in 10 years, 20 years, beyond?

Another tough question! I feel like it takes the fun out of life to plan it too much, and don’t even have a five-year plan, let alone a 10 or 20 year one. (20 years – that’ll make me FIFTY! Eeeks!)

I hope to write a few books that have my name on the cover first – instead of being a co-author or ghostwriter. I hope to travel tons more. Like, for 25% of the year, every year. And maybe I’ll adopt one of the orphans I meet on my adventures…

What has been the hardest thing for your to confront in putting yourself out there through all of these ventures which have recently been launched? (Circus Circus, Becoming, Brand Camp …)

That success and failure are equally possible. There’s no guarantee that any of it will sell out, recoup costs, entice people, or skyrocket to awesomeness. And I like guarantees.

What inspires your visually right now?

Pinterest! I have to strictly limit my time on that site or I end up just oohing and aahing instead of getting any work done. http://pinterest.com/kkalp/

With so many other business ventures centering on business and writing, are you still getting as much time as you’d like to make images?

I’m spending as much time as I’d making images – which is practically none at all. I need some time away from the camera to focus on making memories, not capturing them.

Has image making become less important?

Absolutely – it’s no longer a growing business that leads to income. It’s a hobby again – thankfully – so I can focus on writing and more writing!

What was the motivation for your orphan-hugging-adventures-in-India?

I thought of the most outrageously-awesome adventure I could have THAT WOULD MEAN SOMETHING TO ME and to the others who are coming along. I thought about how my gifts aim toward kids, making kids happy, being an advocate for them, etc…so this seemed perfect.

Do you sing in the shower?

No. I dance, I stretch, and I have my best ideas there, though!

What have you learned through your experiences reaching out to other Creatives and business women?

That everyone – EVERYONE – is scared. Everyone is doing the best they can, but no one has it all figured out. I think we’re quick to assume that everyone else’s life is perfect, and that’s just not the case.

If you could give other women and business owners out there your one-liner for motivation, what would it be?

Get out there and kick ass.

Is the possibility of failure a fear for you?

Of course – but without that possibility, there’s no chance of crazy-wild success. If this is baseball – you have to swing really hard at the ball. You’ll either strike out or hit a homer – but at least you’re not BUNTING. Bunting is so lame.

If you had the opportunity to have anyone of your choosing as your own mentor, who would it be?

Naomi Dunford of Ittybiz (www.ittybiz.com) – she recently opened up consulting and I jumped on that – so, dream coming true! Yay!

                          

The aim and content of this blog will feature travel images, reviews, personal work, and updates on upcoming projects. This past weekend included an adventure to Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, and I’ll be excited to bring that to you on the new blog. You will still be able to stay right here for Portrait and Wedding work. This blog will be more associated with www.nicolerainephotography.com (associated with my commercial/editorial/travel work) than with the original NicoleRaine.com (portraits/weddings). I do quite varied work which deserves different outlets for these different flavors at this point. More importantly, I want it to be relevant for you, the reader. (Newsletter subscribers will also see these changes.) I hope you’ll enjoy both!

This brings me to the big challenge of starting a new blog: what to call it! So! I need your help!

Please help me name the new blog! If I choose the name you suggest I’ll be sending something your way so be sure to check back. Submit as many names as you’d like (no profanity) by Friday, June 10th.

An Additional Note:

There are some great titles out there. I think a great example of a blog title (and photographer!) is the blog of food photographer Penny De Los Santos which is simply titled: Appetite. What a perfect name! It’s simple. It’s to the point. It’s memorable. It’s not cheesy. (Most things I come up with are pretty cheesy, but everything is ok in brainstorming!) I also love that it’s one word. I would love to keep mine to a max of three, but we’ll see how that goes.

This weekend, I’m celebrating all of the moms by sharing some of the many beautiful moms I’ve had the great pleasure to spend time with in the last year. A special congrats to Rosie and family on welcoming a new member of the family last week! They now have a beautiful, healthy, handsome, baby boy!
